[...] Free Comic Book Day was last Saturday, but I haven’t had a chance to read through my haul until now. I’m not reviewing them so much as evaluating them on whether they succeeded in their purpose: making me want to read (and buy) more of their comics. [...]

Hey, <a href="http://www.postmodernbarney.com/2009/05/free-comic-book-day-2009-reviews/" rel="nofollow">Dorian</a> really liked Stuff of Legends, too. I admire his fortitude in covering all of the FCBD books.

I have seen the Nancy and Melvin Monster comic, and it is indeed a flip book.

BTW, I hate flip books. I get headaches from standing on my head to read the other half.

I looked up Stuff of Legends, and as soon as I saw "dark fantasy", that's not for me. But the cover is attractive. Maybe I'll flip through it if I see it on the racks. With the smaller pubs, it's always iffy whether retailers have ordered any of the free comics.

I'd love to find "Love & Capes", but I haven't had much success in the DC area shops. On the other hand, I wouldn't have *known* about the series at all if it hadn't been for FCBD, so it's partly doing its job.

The other one I'm really curious about is the "Stuff of Legends" book. I saw the preview earlier and loved the story and artwork.

I admit I love the Two Morrows deal, but I love the Golden Age history/behind the scenes stuff.

Caroline, Pat's a pretty good guy, give him a call and see if he will put aside some comics for you. I don't usually keep that many of the FCBD comics that I get(Owly being an exception). So you're certainly welcome to what I get.

The one I'm most interested in seeing is the Viz book.

I usually enjoy the Simpson book. I want to see if Dark Horse can make Star Wars: Clone Wars a good comic. (I don't think DC's Batman: Brave and the Bold was successful). Also, curiosity has gotten the better of me and I want to see the TekWar book.

I'm unfortunately not sure I'll be able to get to a store on Saturday, though I'm hoping Velocity will have some leftovers when I go there next week.

I need to check out 'Love & Capes' since I've seen some of his work online and it looks cool.
