So why did Marvel print their books in a smaller size? Was it just to save money? They could've done that simply by doing one instead of two. I thought it was a big mistake for the Avengers because the art was clearly not designed for the smaller format. I guess maybe they didn't decide to go with the small size until after the story was drawn.

I liked the Archie book. There were a lot of fantasy-type Archie stories like those when I was a kid. I always liked them.

(Yes, I know I'm really late commenting on this. I only discovered this site today.)

The AVENGERS comic might have been short, but the plot was typical for Bendis. His Avengers don't solve problems as a group, either by having individuals tackle various aspects of the problem, or by a combined effort. He has one hero dispose of the problem, while the others stand around and comment on the situation. In this case, Bendis had Ares find the Twilight Sword -- and that was that. He's been consistent in not writing superheroes as superheroes.

I've long since decided to not pay attention to GL, since while it does nothing for me it apparently sells well.

I was curious to at least flip through the Blackest Night issue. Yet of the three shops I visited that participated in FCBD, all had put their copies away for their pull boxes customers.

I can understand the loyalty to the pull box customers, but it seemed to go against what I thought FCBD was supposed to be about.

Oh well, I'm not planning to read much, if any, DC until 2010 anyway. I'm kind of curious about Morrison's Multiversity plans for then. Especially with one Earth centering around the DC heroes of the 90s I liked in a world where their predecessors never returned.

Maybe they're trying to balance the press for <a href="http://comicsworthreading.com/2009/04/18/archie-gets-married/" rel="nofollow">Archie marrying Veronica</a>?

But if they're retelling classic stories, Veronica fits much better into the role of villainess instead of normal girl, as Betty does, so it makes more sense to use the latter.

Johanna, I too found it odd in the Archie book how he keep ending up with Betty. It felt like the company was hinting at how they see the love triangle would end.
