Want to play superheroes online without committing to a particular publisher?

Atari and Cryptic Studios will be releasing the MMORPG (massively multiplayer online role-playing game) Champions Online for PCs on September 1, 2009.

It’s based on the older pen & paper role-playing game and promises a “unique character customization tool” to create “characters as one-of-a-kind superheroes, where gamers can choose from thousands of costumes, body types, power sets, and character appearances.” The beta is currently open to signups at the project website.
