I think the art I’ve seen on this so far looks very pretty. Even though it is something I would probably not read since I am into a more “cutesy” style of manga (bigger eyes and such)I still dont think all the hate is called for. To me Twilight is a pretty boring story where the guy (Edward) isent possesive enough xD (yeah I like the crazies) and I read 3 of the actual books and they were pretty boring… But just because its not my thing, I dont hate it. Now it is really popular, but it’s no different then how people are about Naruto (narutards! Run!) so people, you just have to accept it and dont let yourselves waste time on hating something.

Wait a minute, you two. I have plenty of things left in my life that are Twilight free and plenty of places I turn where it’s not shoved down my throat. For one of many examples, my bathroom. ;) If you live with a sibling or roommate who puts Twilight posters all over the place, try asking her or him to tone it down.

OTOH, if one of your parents/guardians is a fan who puts this stuff everywhere and won’t listen to you asking her or him to tone it down, then I understand how it’s so hard to avoid. :/

Nobody has to read this, not even new manga lovers. There are other new manga titles available in bookstores, and the older titles are still available in libraries (even if one has to use interlibrary loan) for new readers to find and read.

It’s cashing in on a lucrative brand name. It’s not trying to start a riot, it’s not making genuine manga fans look bad (unless you riot over this), and it’s not breaching anyone’s sanctuary.

You still don’t have to read or watch any versions of Twilight.

You still don’t have to date someone who stalks you and is possessive of you before he or she barely knows you (no matter how much your parents/guardians say Edward is a good male role model).

You still don’t have to stay married to someone who beats you up in bed (in fact, if you’re stuck in a situation like that, post your region here and I’ll look up resources for you and post them here too).

You still don’t have to promise an infant’s hand in marriage to anyone (again, if your family and/or in-laws are pressuring you to agree to an arrangement like that, post your region here and I’ll look up resources for you and post them here too).

And so on.

Meanwhile, I agree with you that all this “won’t it be original if we make the [gangsters/hitmen/serial killers/sociopaths/vampires/etc.] the main characters this time?!” stuff is played out. It’s reached the point where the 2009 movie Daybreakers is refreshing for actually siding with innocent people who don’t want to be abused.

What on earth is wrong with preppy chicks liking manga instead of being disgusted by the format? I’m (among other things) a manga reader myself, and it sure won’t be a sad day for me if and when some more people enjoy something I already enjoy. :)

Manga fans endure enough blind fangirl-ing as it is. You stay on your side of the wall, thank you very much. We already have our sparkle-tastic vampire romance series. No need for more.

If I see one of these books at a bookstore, I’mma chuck in in the trash where it rightfully belongs. Or a fire pit.

It’s actually a compliment to manga readers, I think, that it’s considered a successful enough venue to target.
