Jim--
You're right! Heart Throbs started off as a Quality book, and was later picked up by DC/National. Thanks!

When questioned about Plastic Man after assisting in the creation of Elongated Man, editor Julie Schwartz claimed that either he never knew or forgot that DC had the rights to Plas.

I don't ever recall reading anything about why DC never put Plas back in print in the late 50s. Jack Cole stopped drawing him in 1950 (even though his name continued to be on the strip for awhile). Police Comics was canceled in 1953 and Plastic Man was canceled in 1956, both before Quality folded. Maybe that's a clue.

Anybody else out there know for sure? I'm curious.

I remember being very excited when this series was announced and then feeling TOTALLY betrayed once it aired. I'm pretty sure that I didn't watch it again after the first episode. Unfortunately, given the mass-market that TV is (and definitely was in the 70's), the cartoon IS Plastic Man for the majority of the population who's ever heard of him. the horror, the horror.

I'm pretty sure that at least one of Quality's romance titles was also continued by DC. it really never did make sense why they didn't continue Plastic Man, as I've always read that he was still selling well when Quality closed shop.

I'd be afraid that if I watched this, I'd have the same experience I always do when watching beloved old cartoons from the 70's and 80's: That the cartoons are terrible, that I had terrible taste as a kid, and that I probably should've been outside playing.
