I will strongly recommend both Hicksville (which I think I read before I was doing reviews) and also Blacksad.

Blacksad is still one of the most outstanding books I’ve read. Eisner said it was “Brilliant art and an unsual display of anthropomorphic realism.”. And, really, who are we to disagree with Eisner?

Chad: I know! It’s almost enough to make one want to find an online copy, just to see the new material.

Lyle: I think you have to respect romance as a genre in order to do something like that, and romance ranks even lower than comics on the status pecking order. :)

I’m glad to hear about a Sinister House of Secret Love collection. What I’ve seen of the series has held up, but back issues are very hard to find and, thus, very expensive.

I’m still puzzled Vertigo never tried to do something similar, take one of the old horror franchises and use the Vertigo characters to create DC’s version of Dark Shadows. It just seemed like an obvious idea to attempt to revisit the romance genre that way instead of the cynical heartthrobs.
