Hm. Well, we’ll just have to wait and see when the “UK cut” and “Director’s cut” come out.

(And to tie to *another* recent article of yours, what are the odds that the “UK cut” is a Blu-Ray exclusive? I’d say around 50-50.)

Apparently much of the negative critical reaction in the UK said the movie was too long. In a way, they’re to be praised for listening to their audience, I guess.

I can’t understand why they’d recut the film for US release…especially as the UK version’s already out on DVD. It’s almost like they’re *daring* us to download the movie.

The UK DVD is Region 2, which means it won’t play on a US DVD player (unless you’ve got a region-free one). I’m hoping that the eventual US Region 1 release will have all this extra material available. I can’t see any reason for them not to.

Thanks for the review! This looks like a lot of fun–I’ve liked other Richard Curtis movies, the cast is good, and the guy in the right foreground of the dance scene looks like a guy I went to grad school with. I’ll be checking it out.

…On DVD, so I can see the stuff that got axed for the US release. Can the UK DVD be played on a standard US DVD player, or is it region-specific?

I am really enjoying the jingles I’ve heard on the We Love the Pirates CD — especially the ones that purposefully sound like singles from the time. It’s a neat glimpse into another era.

I’m glad you liked it! :) It’s interesting you mention The Who Sell Out because as we left the theatre, I sang the, “It’s smooth sailing with the highly successful sound of wonderful Radio London” jingle from that album to my husband. :)
