I guess I just felt he was shifting blame away from himself and putting it on the studio. Yes, the studio put pressure on him for merchandising and probably forced Arnold on him, but the day-glow colors, the mis-characterization of Robin, the awful humor and the move to campy are all things Schumacher acknowledges as his vision for Batman, and those things, more than studio pressure, are what ruined that movie. They were all present in Batman Forever, to lesser degrees, and the success of that movie allowed him to make a film closer to his vision. That is his fault, not the studios.

Can you seriously imagine his vision for Batman: Year One?-- it could only be awful!!! Bruce in a fucia sweater dancing around crooks and flirting with Gordon while ignoring all females in his life. Ugh! Plus, the studio wouldn't allow it because it contradicted the previous films in the series--no symbiotic relationship between Jack and Bruce, no Michelle Pfeiffer Catwoman.

Yes, the special features are what make these movies worth owning. The four part documentary (spread across each film) is really quite illuminating.

Argo, I am not sure what you mean...Schumacher makes no bones about how disappointing the final film was. He also explains he basically tried to give the studio a successful film with the third Batman film while adhering to the things the studio wanted in the hope that this would give him the clout to do what he wanted with the fourth film...Batman Year One. Instead, the studio had more demands and expected him to amp up the merchandizing. He seems to get it, just seems to realize that he made a big mistake.

It might be sadistic, but I couldn't agree more. I have the set in question (got it as a gift a couple of years ago) and the commentaries and special features, while not groundbreaking, are a lot of fun, especially to hear Joel Schumacher speak and realize he still just doesn't get it.

Yeah, Amazon has that set as well, at the same price. But I find goofy movies more fun when I hear people who worked on them talking about what they were aiming for (and missing).

Check Target, they are also doing a multi-movie pack sale. I think you can get all the Blade movies for $10. So you might be able to get the Batman movies even cheaper.
