I’ve heard other people complain about the battery life not lasting as long as the hardware — which is weird to me, because just from my anecdotal experience, it appears that the 1st gens last a lot longer than the newer ones, battery life included. Maybe they started working in some more “planned obsolescence”?

I hate that you can’t change the battery in the things. I’ve a 60GB — I want to say 4th gen but maybe it’s 5th, whatever the last one to support Firewire was. Battery won’t hold a charge anymore and it’s basically useless as anything but a portable hard drive now.

I love Ipods, of course I’ve never had to pay more that a $1 to try and win one.:) (there is a line up the boxes arcade game in the mall that I have good success at)

My current favorite is the first Generation Ipod I have that came in a John Lennon box!

I find myself using slightly older iPods more as USB drives than music players, especially the Shuffle. Bless Apple for making that easy.

I felt kinda weird about this. I replaced my video ipod when the connection for the headphones got all spotty. I went for an ipid touch which I love but recently my wife wanted to use my old device to listen to This American Life podcasts.

At first I was all “NOOOO You can’t use it. It’s my first (kinda busted) ipod but then I came to my senses. I really don’t tend to replace items until they are dead dead dead but music delivery vehicles are just gold.
