Archie Comics has announced that they will be releasing another volume in their Archie Americana collection series, covering the decades with reprinted Archie stories about the fads of the times.
Volume 10, Best of the Seventies Book 2, will be released May 5. The 96-page color volume is $11.95 US, the same price as the most recent book in the series: Best of the Nineties came out in late 2008. The first Best of the Seventies volume was released in 1998. For the second volume, expect more disco, social awareness, inflation, and the Bicentennial.
As with the other second volumes, the cover breaks from the original pattern to use a design more emblematic of the era. (The second Sixties book used a peace sign, for example.) In this case, it’s a Brady Bunch-like character grid. I would have rather seen the colors more faithful to the period; these look more overdone than they would have been at the time, but maybe that’s to catch the modern reader’s eye. At least Chuck and the two adults make the cover!
