KC on What It Means to Create a Character

KC’s latest Westfield column covers the question of what it means to create a character, and how creator credits can differ legally from what really happened. To illustrate his points, he looks at Batman, Deadshot, Batgirl/Oracle, the Question, and my favorite, Fortress Lad. Even though I thought I knew most of these stories, there were still bits I learned, and it’s a fascinating question. How do you credit creation in a shared universe where the things that make a character popular were never dreamed of by the people who first wrote and drew him or her?
