Mushishi Manga Moveable Feast: Final Thoughts

by Ed Sizemore

I’d like to share some final thoughts on the April Manga Moveable Feast covering Mushishi.

First, the important stuff. May’s Moveable Manga Feast will cover To Terra by Keiko Takemiya, published in the U.S. by Vertical, Inc. Kate Dacey will be the host. Kate is a highly respected reviewer, and I look forward to what she has in store for the series. She will be posting an introduction for To Terra on May 23rd. For those interested in participating, please plan to post your reviews that week.

The April MMF was a great success. We had 11 new reviews posted for the week and an additional 21 older reviews that we linked to. Several people not previously affiliated with the Manga Moveable Feast asked to participate, so I’m excited to see the MMF community grow. Also, the MMF got its first ever podcast this month, with several reviewers joining over Skype to discuss Mushishi.

And that’s not even the end of it! Matt Blind, Daniella Orihuela-Gruber, and I believe Rob McMonigal will all be posting further Mushishi reviews. So lots of good things happening.

A very heartfelt thanks to everyone that participated. Your reviews and thoughts are the heart and soul of the Manga Moveable Feast. It’s a privilege and honor to be in the company of such wonderful people. Thanks for allowing me to be the host; I thoroughly enjoyed myself. I hope everyone else had a good time as well.

Thanks to all our readers out there. I hope that you’ve also enjoyed this past week. I know that all reviewers like to get comments and feedback on their work, so please let them know that you’re reading and what you think.

Words can’t express my gratitude to Johanna for all her hard work. I was the carnival barker in loud clothes and voice. Johanna was actually doing all the heavy lifting. She had to build the tents and make sure everyone was fed and taken care of, writing each of the daily update posts. She also created and organized the April MMF page with all links. My thanks to her.

Finally, the last volume of Mushishi will be an omnibus containing the final three volumes 8, 9 & 10. It’s available for preorders now and will ship to stores on July 27, 2010. So please go out and support this wonderful series by buying the final volume.
