The 1978 Beatty Heaven Can Wait was a remake of Here Comes Mr. Jordan, which probably explains the mixup. That starred Robert Montgomery, who was quite the matinee idol in his youth, although a bit miscast as a boxer. But you could say the same about Beatty as a football star.

I knew there was an earlier HCW, but I keep willfully confusing it with “Here Comes Mr. Jordan”. Even to the point of putting Don Ameche in the Warren Beatty role.

But I don’t think I knew it was Lubitsch. I hope I can remember to seek it out.
