Wow, what a cool time we live in for comic book movies. OK, the next superhero wannabe franchise looks generic:
What does it say that I want to see this movie with just Kato and the car instead of Seth Rogen as the Green Hornet? And I think it’s a bad idea that the film was delayed into next January so it could be converted to 3-D.
But look at what else is out there! I’ve already talked about the one I’m most anticipating, but there’s also the cartoon take on the Superman/Brainiac relationship, Megamind, with an amazing voice cast — Will Ferrell, Brad Pitt, and as not-Lois Lane, Tina Fey. Then there’s this:
With Bruce Willis, Helen Mirren, and Morgan Freeman as former spies put out to pasture who aren’t ready to be retired yet. Red writer Warren Ellis has posted about its differences with his graphic novel, but heck, I’m in with the concept and cast. (And for me, saying the movie will have a lighter tone than the book is a plus.)
Most of all, I’m excited that people are thinking of comic sources as providing more than just superhero stories.
