I would hope that those creators, especially those with their own followings, would set up their own websites, where they can create and publish their own comics.

I think DC has shot itself in the foot here. I was an ardent Zuda fan, despite agreeing that the competition format was ultimately flawed. If they had have continued with whatever non-competition based submission system they chose and included a feature where creators could post comics and continue to have them critiqued by the public they could have maintained their fan base. Instead they’ve destroyed it with what feels like a Dear-John letter at best, a slap in the face at worst.

It’s sad to see a comic indy giant fall like this. The Fabler is exploring a similar opportunity and business model that might be a good alternative for independent comic creators.

I’m hugely disappointed because a lot of my favorite talent did not get to continue their comics as downloadables. That pretty much means that all their hard work kinda went down the toilet.
