This is the number #1 reason today why DC Comics and Warner Brothers entertainment really suck. Especially DC COMICS THEY really really suck. They just can not maintain publishing a good old fashion clean kid friendly book.

My girls and I were saddened when the “LSH in the 31st Century” title was cancelled (not long after the Kids’ WB folded). They had finally discovered the Legion (with Happy Meal toys!) and were really getting into comics. Now… not so much.

Johanna,

We just read some great GNs – Grandpa &Julie: Shark Hunters, Spiral Bound, and the 3-2-3 Detective Agency. All were very pleasant surprises, as were the 2 Kit Feeny books (however, we’ve now read virtually the entire comics section at our local library!).

I wish there were more in terms of monthly comics that might appeal to girls — Super Friends (R.I.P.) had a female lead, of course, and Batman B&B (soon to be R.I.P.)often features female characters. Tiny Titans does too, of course, though I don’t get half the jokes in that book.

Aw, that’s a shame, to be disappointed so young. I’m just glad that there are so many great kids’ comics and graphic novels still available, even if they aren’t superhero.

That’s half my daughter’s pull list eliminated in one fell swoop. She’s been reading Super Friends for the whole run (29 issues, about a third of her life) and was nearly in tears when we read the goodbye note in the letters column…

I think this stuff is cyclical at Marvel and DC. They do a few kids titles, they’re popular for a while, and then they trail off. Then they try again because they see the opportunity in appealing to the kids market AND appealing to the next generation of readers.

The reality is that there is a marketplace for kids comics.

My 6-year-old daughter is going to be crushed. DC Super Friends wasn’t as in-jokey as Tiny Titans and had really good pro-social messages. Maybe Super Friends was losing money for the company, but canceling it is short-sighted. Now, instead of continuing on with other DC titles as she grows older, we’ll be looking elsewhere for age-appropriate reads (Disney’s Princess and Tinker Bell Magazines, I guess) and staying away from DC, and our local comic stores.

It’s just sad. Way to go, DC.

Hopefully they replace it with something on par with the books they were doing. Maybe they are contemplating new kids titles.

As a dad with kids, I have often purchased Marvel and DC kids titles in bulk (at local comicons) just to hand out at Halloween and for other occasions. It’s nice to know (as a parent) that there are safe comics that you dont have to read before sharing with other people’s kids.

Given that the Johnny DC line has now been essentially cancelled across the board the week before Comic Con, I’m expecting some kind of announcement soon.

That said, my daughter has decided to replace DC Super Friends with Marvel’s Superhero Squad. Not sure what will replace Batman: Brave and the Bold.

Weird, I some times really don’t know what DC is thinking at times. This, the rumor that they plan to bring the Vertigo characters back into DCU, and I honestly don’t even now what Wildstorm publishes.

Ugh. What DC books I’ve been buying lately has been the Johnny DC line. Since I refuse to spend hard earned money on the mainstream DCU, guess that just leaves Tiny Titans (if it survives the axe) and the sporadic reprint TPB/Looney Tunes comic. Nice move, DC.

I heard from an unconfirmed source that the Cartoon Network books would soon fall under the Wildstorm umbrella.

If this is true,I wonder if this is the reason for the cancellations.

This is the first I’ve heard of this, and it’s really disappointing. My son loves that Super Friends comic. I’m guessing this means a cancellation of the related toy line as well?
