I used gift certificates for the Toy Story films from the infamous Hardcover Trade debacle. Monsters and Cars I got for terrific deals around Christmas and I bought Bugs life used for about $12. :)

But I totally understand putting it off for other items. Thankfully, Pixar is not bound by the Disney Vault rules. I don't think. Wait. Are they?

I see. I have a DVD recorder also, but have only used it lately for dubbing old stuff I recorded to VHS/to play DVDs, since getting a DVR last November (which is working nicely), also the same time I bought a new TV (moving up to HD by default). Also play DVDs on my laptop...

Re: Back to the Future: the new set sounds nice. I'm still hoping they'll release the early 90s TV cartoon of BTTF to DVD someday...

KC wanted it for his birthday. His reasoning was that he wanted to get the complete Lost set, and with a purchase of that magnitude, he wanted to get the more current format so it would "stay good" longer, kind of future-proofing.

Also, we'd been using a DVD recorder as our main player as well as using it to burn things, and we just plain wore it out. So now we're splitting the work between the two machines.

Plus, prices on new releases are becoming comparable, and the Blu-ray often have more extras we want to see. The used BR aren't as cheap, but we have a whole backlog of DVD purchases to get through already, and once we finish, I'm thinking prices might drop back to where we're used to impulse purchasing.
