Love the article, this show has really grown on me. I came up on the darker 80's Batman, but my affinity for the character lead me to the Golden and Silver Age stories. So the homage to the Haney B+B mixed with the Silver Age nostalgia is so fun to watch.

I don't know for sure, but I've suspected the voice for the Joker is a bit of a tribute to Christopher Walken with just a hint of Larry Storch thrown in.

not to be THAT guy, but the Daffy Duck cartoon Bat-Mite is parodying, The Great Piggy Bank Robbery, is actually a parody of Dick Tracy, not Bat Man.

I love this show though, its portrayals of a number of characters are, in my opinion, the perfect iconic portrayal of them. I would love more comic versions of this show's Aquaman, Kamandi, Blue Beetle, Firestorm, Black Canary and Plastic Man. Even characters I haven't cared for in the past such as Wildcat or Atom are so fun I'd read comics about them now. Plus it gave us episodes featuring B'Wana Beast! B'WANA BEAST! With his animal fusing powers intact even. I love that guy!

The only real problem with the series (aside from any episode starring the terminally boring Red Tornado) is the lack of more strong female characters. Mostly they exist to be sexy trophies without personality (Huntress, Vixen) or nagging no-fun harridans (Ms Plastic Man, Mera). Poor Fire's been in the opening credits since the show began and she's had what, one line ever? Only Black Canary and Katanna get any real development, although what the show did with the Batman and Black Canary brother/sister dynamic and the old Justice Society is really fantastic. To be fair, the DC silver age (hell even the modern age if we're honest) didn't have a lot of strong female characters which makes it difficult for a show based on silver age appreciation to include them. I'm looking forward to another Black Canary episode in season 3, and ideally we'd get an episode spotlight on someone unexpected like... wow it's hard to think of female DC characters they could use... Gimmick Girl, The Girl of 1000 Gimmicks, I always liked her name.

I was really hesitant about this series, as I was a big fan of the Timm Verse DC series. Yet during a recent free trial of one of the by mail movie rental companies I ordered the first season of this. I was hooked almost right away though!

Its just so much freaking fun. The surprising thing for me was it took a character I had... well don't like to admit it but a grudge against in Jaime BB and made me like him. I am a huge fan of the Ted Kord character, and the way he was killed off in the comics just made me not willing to give the new series a try. (didn't say anything bad about it, I just didn't support it)

Yet darn it if they not only didn't they make him really interesting, though it took time to get used to Ron Stoppable's (from Kim Possible) voice coming out of him. Yet the way they explained the passage of the mantle worked so REALLY well, that I am now willing to give the comic version a try now.

KC,

You articulated everything I love about this series. It's delightful to see heroes that enjoy saving the day and having a good. I love the good nature rivalry between Green Arrow and Batman. It's refeshing to see a superheroes series with clearly drawn lines between right and wrong. It's not scared to be campy, but never mocking. I'm addicted to this series and have watched and rewatched the episodes as they air weekly. I look forward to the upcoming season.

While I'm not a big fan of the new "Scooby Doo" series (I dislike some of the elements of the series), I do look forward to the new Scooby Doo/Batman teamup. Though I'm wondering if it won't just use the generic classic Scooby Doo take (vs. the Mystery, Incorporated take) on the characters, a la the recent direct-to-video Scooby movies.

Re: Brave and the Bold: Aquaman and his family on vacation was great, as was Bat-Mite's episode. I also liked seeing in the Firestorm episode a reference to the Zoo Crew's Little Cheese (as a brand of Cheez Wiz-like product).
