Virginia Comic Shop Changes, Sales

Velocity Comics and Brett’s Comic Pile used to share store space at 904 W. Broad Street in Richmond, Virginia. Velocity handled the new comics, while Brett’s covered back issues. After five years together, they’re splitting their locations, resulting in some deals tomorrow. According to this announcement,

Velocity Comics will be moving DIRECTLY across the street, with more retail space, and better parking! Brett’s Comic Pile will continue to fulfill back issue want lists through Velocity Comics, but we will no longer be stocking back issues on-site…but we WILL be keeping them at a new location in Downtown Richmond we are developing for MONTHLY comic liquidation events!

As a sometime customer who doesn’t live in the immediate area, I’m thrilled to hear about the “better parking”. More space is also a very good thing. I love seeing good shops crowded with customers, but I also like room to browse, and the current location was getting a little over-stuffed. In preparation for the move, Brett’s announced a sale this Saturday, October 16, from 10-4. “ALL back issues over $2 are half off! We will also be bringing in about 2,000 graphic novels and hard covers for $5 each, as well as 100 new Toon Tumblers for only $10 each! …ABSOLUTELY NO REASONABLE OFFER REFUSED!”

I believe that last bit, because the more they sell, the less they have to move. Velocity will be open in the new location on November 1st, with service continuing at their existing store until then.

Update: It’s unrelated, but other recommended local shop Richmond Comix is also having a sale this weekend.

We are going to put over half the store on sale at buy two items get one of equal or lesser value FREE! Everything on our newly expanded clearance rack will be an additional 25% off the marked clearance price!

The listed items for the buy 2, get 1 include graphic novels, boardgames, statues, and toys. No regular comics, but pretty much everything else. What a great weekend for shopping!
