Shout! Factory, the pop culture DVD company with lots of great ideas about what fans want, has acquired rights to bring the fully computer-animated ReBoot cartoon to home video. They’re going to start with a Complete Series DVD box set in 2011.
To promote the release, they’ve announced a fan art contest. The five “most distinctive” entries, those with “the most unique rendition of their favorite characters from the popular CGI animated series”, will be included in the first edition set booklet, and winners will get a complimentary copy of the complete series set (in return for giving up all art rights to Rainmaker Entertainment, the cartoon owner, in perpetuity).
Out of all the entries (up to two per artist, 18 and older, due by December 3, U.S. and Canada residents only), 20 will be selected by Shout Factory’s creative staff. From those, Brendan McCarthy, the original production designer of ReBoot Seasons 1-3, will pick the five winners. The full rules and entry point can be found at reboot.com.
