Whatever Happened to Dork Tower?

I found myself boxing up some of the longer trade series that were in standard comic size — like Hellboy and the few Buffy collections I want to keep and PS238 — and stumbled across the first seven books of Dork Tower. I was reminded, when book 7 left off in 2004, the guy was running to the airport to meet up with his dream girl, Gilly the perky goth, who was on her way to London. Since then, there’s been two more collections, but they contained webstrips, not more of the continuing story. (Unless I’m wrong? Let me know.) I’d still like to find out what happened with them — I wonder if I ever will?
Update: Author John Kovalic has posted an explanation and some information on his future plans.

Hi Johanna,
John Kovalic was on The Ink Panthers podcast over the Summer, talking about this, and announcing that he was planning on going back to the story. He basically said that a bunch of personal issues around the time that older story was happening prevented him from ever completing it.

I was hoping posting this would gather some more information! Thanks so much for pointing that out — I’m going to listen to your podcast now. I’m glad to hear there’s still hope for finding out more of the story.

I’m so sorry to hear about everything going on, but congratulations on your daughter! Thanks for letting me know about the update. I’m ready to read more whenever the next collection comes out.

OMG!! I am packing things up for a move at the beginning of the year and actually ran across an issue of DT. I’d wondered about the book as well, so great to see this news. Especially the collections as most of my comic collection (including the DT collections) were destroyed in a hurricane a few years back.
