Disney’s next big-screen animated film will be Winnie the Pooh, to be released July 15. These characters have been favorites of mine since I read the books as a child, and I hadn’t realized how much I’d missed them until I saw the trailer:

Craig Ferguson is Owl! And Pooh sounds like he should, too, voiced by Jim Cummings. The narrator will be John Cleese, adding a lovely sense of gravitas with the right accent. Although the screenplay credit is “TBD”, the description says the all-new movie will be “inspired by five stories from A.A. Milne’s books”, including those in which Eeyore’s lost his tail, and Pooh wants honey. It will be traditional 2-D animation — which I’m glad to see, since I feared Disney had given up on it since The Princess and the Frog — and the forest art looks gorgeous.
The theme song vocals will be performed by Zooey Deschanel, emphasizing her “indie folk” singer side, and there will be seven new songs, including “A Pooh Bear Takes Care of His Tummy”, “A Very Important Thing To Do”, and “Everything Is Honey” (which I think we get a hint of in the trailer).
