In KC’s latest Westfield column, he discusses three things that are now gone: the Comics Code — and he tells some cool stories about his personal experience with it as a DC editor — Wizard magazine, and the Human Torch.
KC makes some really interesting points with this article.
In many ways he is correct in the assumption that magazines such as Wizard really derailed comics as a major art form in both the US and worldwide, I remember when I was reading Wizard way back when it was one of the most sexist magazines I had ever read. Perhaps this is one of the problems as he points out with the medium today. Maybe someday with the next generation we will see a return to once was till then I’m sticking to indie and the net.
I think I kind of had a love-hate relationship with the code. I find myself waxing nostalgic for it….
