Shout! Factory has announced that they will be releasing Dennis the Menace Season 1 on March 29. This five-disc set, based on the classic comic strip by Hank Ketcham reprinted by Fantagraphics, contains 32 black-and-white episodes. The show debuted in 1959 (the strip started in 1951) and starred Jay North as Dennis Mitchell, Herbert Anderson as his father Henry, Gloria Henry as mom Alice, and Joseph Kearns and Sylvia Field as neighbors George and Martha Wilson.

Here’s my description of every episode of the show: Dennis gets in trouble, often by annoying Mr. Wilson, leading to “humorous misadventures”. Many remember it now as a relic of a simpler time, when suburban kids could roam free and explore without fears keeping them indoors and over-scheduled. DVD bonus features include
- New interviews with Jeannie Russell (who played Margaret) and Gloria Henry
- Archival radio interviews with Russell and Henry
- Original TV show promo
- A bonus episode of The Donna Reed Show in which North and Kearns played Dennis and Mr. Wilson — nice!
