My book of the week is the first volume of The Finder Library (Dark Horse, $24.99), Carla Speed McNeil’s excellent science fiction series. This volume affordably reprints the first four books: Sin-Eater (Volumes 1 and 2), King of Cats, and the beloved, brilliant Talisman. It’s all wonderful, beautifully done, thought-provoking stuff. Find out more at this interview with Carla, or enter to win (courtesy of Dark Horse) a copy of Finder: Voice, her newest installment in the series. It’s her best yet!
I’ve also already had the pleasure of reading Yen Press’ Bunny Drop Volume 3 ($12.99), another satisfying chunk of story about an accidental dad and his darling daughter. I recommend it.
I was less enthralled with NBM’s Story of Lee ($11.99), but it’s worth looking at if you’re interested in stories about international, cross-culture romances. You can read a preview if you’re not sure.
For younger readers, I’m sure the Owly children’s book Friends All Aflutter! (Top Shelf, $15.99) will become a beloved companion. Teens (or nostalgic adults) will appreciate the 12th (!) volume in the Archie Americana reprint series, Best of the 90s Book 2 (Archie Comics, $11.95).
In terms of periodicals, I was following Supergirl, but the creative team shakeups have made me nervous of getting too attached. I think I’ll look for the concluding issue of Captain America: Man Out of Time #5 (Marvel Comics, $3.99), since that’s been a good read so far.
