Congratulations to First Female Comickers Recognized by NCS

According to her publisher Dark Horse, Jill Thompson is “the first female creator to win in the comics category in the history of the Reuben Awards!”

The Reubens are presented by the clubby National Cartoonists Society (NCS), and Thompson won this year’s Comic Books category for Beasts of Burden. (I would think that would make this a shared award, since Evan Dorkin wrote the book, but apparently, the NCS either didn’t know that or focuses on the art.) There is a separate Graphic Novels category (which appears to have been started in 2010), which was won by Joyce Farmer for Special Exits.

Congratulations to these women for being trailblazers!
