Ed and I Discuss Bride’s Story on Manga Out Loud
Posted in Manga News on June 7, 2011 by Johanna
The latest episode of Manga Out Loud features Ed and I discussing A Bride’s Story, a stunning new manga we both enjoyed. Ed dubs me capable of speaking for “all women everywhere in the galaxy”, which I found hilarious, but then we settle down to discuss
- Kaoru Mori’s earlier series Emma
- how modern female readers might react to this book
- comparisons to The Color of Earth trilogy, a very different historical manga; Ed’s insight paired them up, which surprised me, because it never would have occurred to me to think about the two together
- the episodic structure of the book and its beauty
- things we’d add to the review if we were writing it now
- how cool I found the lead character, Amir, and her accomplishments
- and overall, varied perspectives on culture when it comes to historical fiction
In other podcast news, Ed was interviewed at Fanboy.com about some of his fan favorites.

I just finished reading A Bride’s story and loved it. I read Emma and thought it would be hard to top but I think this manga is definitely a contender. The humor here and there really made the manga pleasant to read. The graphics were very detailed and spectacular also.
