Given that there are what, half dozen Xbooks now? Getting rid of the oldest one is actually pretty smart. Stirs up the pot a bit and they really don't lose anything. But yeah, this is bandwagon jumping for sure.

I hadn't heard that about the various artists on Schism. It seems that the Xbooks have the best talent on them these days. I've just recently started getting back into the Xmen. I enjoyed Liu's X23, the New Mutants and the Lost in the Negative Zone thing. And even though I came in way too late, I like the Xbook that Dodson is on. Between that and the new DC stuff, looks like the wife won't be getting that vacation this year.

From what I read, this leaves "Archie" as the longest-running not-restarted/renumbered American comic book.
Right now I'm trying to figure out what this leaves as the longest-running, never restarted or renamed or renumbered book. (Since UXM was the leader for Marvel, with most people giving some slack for the few months it was missing between 66 and 67) I'm pretty sure Archie is the winner for US comics, with 2000 AD being an arguable point since it does get US distribution. For the big two, I think Hellblazer, of all titles, will be the king of the hill unless they drop since JC is heading back to the DCU.

The article seems to insinuate that this is a knee jerk response by Marvel to DC's recent news. You seem to forget however that Marvel has been rebooting more high numbered titles recently (like Fantastic Four, Incredible Hulk(s), Thor), announced (long) before DC's big announcement.
It's a stupid sales gimmick, just like restoring several books to their original numbering in 2009 and 2010 was a stupid sales gimmick. But I doubt it has anything to do with DC's news in such a direct manner though.

An all new #1 and it will be 56 issues of the new series before #600 was supposed to be hit.

That means that they can run the new series almost 5 years before switching the numbering back at the big round-numbered anniversary issue.

They're going to miss out on that #550 anniversary, but the "50"s aren't as big a deal as the round numbers except for magic ones like #50, #750 or #250 (I don't know exactly why being a multiple of 25 and 10 makes you magic, but those are magic issue numbers). And they'll get a "#50" of the new series a half a year before the #600 of the old series. Two sales boosts in a year from the magic numbers!

By my count DC has a lot less time with their reboot before Detective Comics has a big anniversary coming up that they'll want to jump back the numbering for. So perhaps this is well-timed by Marvel :)

Whenever stuff like this happens (and this was my feeling about the DC reboot too) I'm very glad that there are so many non-Marvel/DC options for me to read. I couldn't imagine caring about comics that constantly feel the need to reboot, revamp and recycle without doing anything much with the status quo. I would quit comics for life.

In conclusion, I love manga/creator owned comics. Because this stuff doesn't seem to happen there (and god willing it never will).
