I'd been waiting for a full-length book by Vera Brosgol ever since I first saw her art in Hopeless Savages B-Sides, and Anya's Ghost did not disappoint. It was wonderful and surprising. I hope the wait for Vera's second book isn't as long!

Its nifty, there isn't a lot of established comic talent on these I picked up. Though Jim Fern (drew GL and some CrossGen among others) draws one and B Clay Moore (Hawaiian Dick) writes a thriller.

Two of the others I have are written by writers who worked on Pushing Daisy. Yet really at $3 for that many pages I would have tried them for complete unknowns.

I'd like to find some of their other books now Mirror Mirror that Darwyn Cooke contributed to, and I see Amanda Conner contributed to two others.

Wow, that's good pricing. I hadn't been paying attention to their releases because they sounded like another of these wannbe-movie-pitch comic companies, but Book of Lilah does sound cute.

I remember really liking the first issue (iwas like 25 cents right?) of W/W FF so I might look for that trade.

The Young Astronauts book series for YA was one of my favorite series as a kid, so I'll look for that Astronauts Academy book.

For those looking for something else to read, they may want to check out the Kickstart Comics ( kickstartcomics.com )which are available at most Wal-Mart stores. I picked up 8 of the little GNs,which are 60 or so color pages for $3 each. Haven't read much of them yet, but The Book of Lilah has been especially fun.

I heartily recommend the Waid-Wieringo Fantastic Four book. They were great comics, with a sense of humor, and a lot of fun ideas.

I picked up Anya's Ghost from the library. It is a wonderful book, definitely deserving of a Neil Gaiman pull-quote.

I really like the documentary on Kirby that came with the dvd of the first film. I think I've watched that at least a dozen times since I bought it. I didn't find the documentaries on the second film all that entertaining. Probably because there was no new information.

Also, if you haven't seen it, the new Planet of the Apes series from Boom is pretty good. The two main lead characters are women so that's also pretty cool.
