There’s a new Planet of the Apes movie out August 5, the reboot origin Rise of the Planet of the Apes. As a tie-in, Boom! Studios has posted a free online digital comic prequel at apescomics.com.

The comic’s story, about two captured apes experimented on, is set before the events of the film. It’s written by Daryl Gregory and illustrated by Damian Couceiro and Tony Parker. There are five pages now, with more released each Wednesday. The 10-page conclusion will be posted August 3rd, just before the movie’s release. Boom! also publishes an ongoing Planet of the Apes comic book.
Or, if you prefer video to digital, Amazon has a really good deal right now on the Planet of the Apes 40th Anniversary Collection. The set has the five movies with lots of extras, available now at half-price. The DVD Legacy Collection is similarly discounted if you prefer that format.
