I think it only fair to point out that Fallout as a whole has been dealing with spotlights of various character’s responses to spider-man’s death. The actual story of the new spidey is left for his upcoming series

Well, that’s annoying. Marvel has a horrible habit of getting me interested just before they change a title’s direction, so there’s no point in my following the book.

What’s particularly strange about this issue of New Mutants is that it mostly focuses on team members who’ve just been written out of the book (Cannonball, Karma & Magik). And indeed, aside from Magik (in a support role), none of them are featured in the next arc.
