Comic retailer Michael George, found guilty for the second time of murdering his first wife 21 years ago, has been sentenced to life in prison, according to The Detroit News. Per the article, George continued to claim his innocence.
“Something will be found. Someone will come forward,” a tearful George said in Macomb County Circuit Court. “I have never harmed a woman in my life. Let’s not forget no one saw me there — no one.”
George’s attorney Carl Marlinga announced plans to file motions for acquittal and a new trial next week. He was quoted as saying, “This is the worst I’ve ever felt at any sentencing because of my subjective personal belief that my client is innocent.” George has also been ordered by the court to pay restitution to John Hancock Life Insurance Co. of $130,000.
