Marvel has announced that they will be launching “two all-new ongoing comic book titles for comic fans of all ages” in April. The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes Adventures will be written by Chris Yost and drawn by Adam Dekraker and contain two stories told “through the eyes of Agent Coulson.”
Ultimate Spider-Man Adventures will be written by Dan Slott & Ty Templeton and “Man of Action”, a group responsible for the popular Ben 10 cartoon. I’m assuming that so many credits means multiple stories there as well. Art will be by Nuno Plati.
Both books will be priced at $2.99 US. Both match the titles of the Marvel cartoons launching the “Marvel Universe” programming block on Disney XD on April 1. The Spider-Man cover even matches the TV promo art, complete with Photoshop-blurred feet.
This method, of releasing kids’ comics based on what has other-media support in cartoons, is the same strategy DC’s followed for years. It makes sense to attempt to build synergy and get free TV advertising.
