Gender-Swapped Costumes — Never Not Funny

As part of a regular Twitter survey feature, Comics Should Be Good has posted a set of fan images showing male superheroes wearing the outfits of female heroes. Here’s just one example, a classic pairing by John Trumbull.

Black Canary and Green Arrow

When done by competent artist, this topic — which pops up every so often — makes a point while providing plenty of humor. Like Captain America flashing his butt to the soldiers following him or the weirdly attractive Hal Jordan, Star Sapphire.

I particularly like those who add a story to the situation, as when Saturn Girl has to save the Legion of Super-Heroes all by herself — with the aid of some transvestite robots. Or the especially well-drawn Catwoman and Batman sexy times.

That’s one of the ones in the post I linked to. I suspect we’ll see them all over the net soon. :)

I liked the JLA in variations of Wonder Woman’s outfit, especially Aquaman saying “Eh, I’ve worn worse.” :D

The funny thing is, the women often look better in the men’s costumes. I think Black Canary looks better in Green Arrow’s costume there than she does in that ridiculous costume Green Arrow has on.

And, of course, the vice versa never works. The guy never looks better in the woman’s costume.

    “Gender-Swapped Costumes — Never Not-transphobic”

It’s a shame Work It got canceled, most of those commenters would have loved it.

Gender play should be fun, not made fun of. However, some of those examples really crossed the line. Drag isn’t a punchline, but several of the examples shown made it the point of mockery and shame.

Too bad too, some of the art looked fabulous.

In fairness to Dave Cockrum’s Saturn Girl costume, lots of Legionnaires of both genders wore pretty revealing costumes at that time…
