Harper Design is reissuing the classic vampire novel Dracula by Bram Stoker with new art by Becky Cloonan (Demo).
The large, self-covered hardcover has over 50 illustrations, many of which demonstrate modern design in their placement. They stripe across the top third of a two-page spread, for instance, or take up half the page vertically. Here’s a sample, showing Cloonan’s take on the vampire count himself (on the right, click to enlarge).
Cloonan’s figure art is stronger than I’ve ever seen it, backed up by moody, effective coloring (mostly in black and red, as you’d expect). Her fans will definitely want to check this out. You can see a couple more preview pages at her blog.
