I enjoyed the film a great deal as well. I’ve no idea why it had such bad press.

I had never read any of the John Carter books, but I ended up reading the first couple before the movie came out. I thought they did a very good job of adapting the first one, keeping the spirit of the original while updating some of the out of date parts. I loved what they did with the Princess, who is pretty much a stock character in the novel.

I really liked the movie. I went about 3 1/2 weeks into the theatrical release on a week night. I was surprised to see the theater about half full. From what i could tell, most seemed to enjoy themselves.

I’ll buy this on BluRay because I am old enough to be scared by not having a physical copy of the movie when I need/want it.

I really enjoyed the movie. Reminded me a little in tone of the first Brendan Frasier Mummy movie, with its mixture of adventure and humor. Can’t wait to get the Blu-Ray, especially with those extras.

It does seem weird to me that, with so many options (Netflix, Redbox, others) available to see a movie without having to buy the DVD, that studios are raising prices at the same time they’re cutting back on special features (at least the ones I consider attractive). Maybe demand going down makes them think they need to price higher, but that seems like the beginning of a downward spiral.

I’m glad to hear that Collins’ role is one to watch for.

And I guess I comment about the actual content of the movie would be in order … I enjoyed it despite the pre-release critical beating it received. Lynn Collins’ princess was a highlight, smart and strong in all the right ways, never losing agency or cast in as the damsel in distress.

I was about to protest, but I’ve curtailed most of my dvd buying in the past few years. I took a quick look over the various Amazon top genre dvd lists and anything under $30 msrp was definitely an outlier. (Midnight in Paris and King’s Speech where two out of dozens and dozens) Interesting. That’s surely one way to get me to keep spending my money elsewhere!

The prices are astonishing! There is absolutely no chance I’d consider buying a bare bones dvd with no special features for $30($19 on Amazon).
