Dredd Comes to DVD With Retrospective Featurette
November 15, 2012

Dredd, the recent movie take on the long-running comic character, has been announced for home video on January 8, 2013.

There are two disc editions: 3-D Blu-ray (which includes both 3-D and standard movie versions on one disc, plus digital copy and UltraViolet, suggested retail price $39.99) or the DVD version (which also has the digital copy and UltraViolet, $29.95). There’s also pay-per-view, on demand, and digital download available on the same date.

Although subject to change, here’s the planned list of featurettes (available on both formats):

* “Mega-City Masters: 35 Years of Judge Dredd” featurette
* “Day of Chaos: The Visual Effects of Dredd 3D” featurette
* “Dredd” featurette
* “Dredd’s Gear” featurette
* “The 3rd Dimension” featurette
* “Welcome to Peachtrees” featurette
* Dredd Motion Comic Prequel

I don’t know what “Peachtrees” is, since I haven’t seen the movie, but that retrospective looking back at the character could be interesting.

I saw the film in the theater and enjoyed it. For what it’s worth, “Peach Trees” is the name of the residential block tower where most of the film takes place.

Jim Perreault writes:

And the name Peach Trees is a bit of an inside joke, as it refers to a restaurant in England where the movie writer met with Judge Dredd creator to discuss the movie.
