I have a special contest for the holidays for my readers — free copies of Manga Studio EX 4 (for Mac) and Anime Studio Pro 9, courtesy of Smith Micro! As they describe Manga Studio EX 4 (list price $300), it’s “the leading comic and manga creation software worldwide, delivers powerful cutting edge features for manga and comic artists alike” including “thousands of screen tones, professional drawing and coloring tools, and in depth layout and rendering capabilities”. (They also offer a Debut version for those just getting started.)
Anime Studio Pro (list price $200) has “an intuitive interface, a visual content library, and powerful features such as a bone rigging system, bitmap to vector conversion, integrated lip-synching, 3D modeling, physics, motion tracking, a character wizard and … advanced animation tools to speed up your workflow.” (There’s a Debut version of that as well.)
The grand prize winner, selected by random draw, will win one copy each of both of these software packages. Four second prize winners will get a copy of one of the programs. To enter, leave a comment telling me what you’d like to make with either version (and which would be your choice if you get second place). Software will be delivered by download, so the contest is open to anyone. A winner will be picked randomly from all entries on Monday, December 24. Happy holidays!

I would love to have these incredible tools at my disposal in order to take my artwork to the next level.
I’d prefer the Manga Studio if I’m a runner-up.

Wow, what a great contest!
I’d finally try my hand at creating some 4-koma manga! :D
If I win second place, I’d pick Manga Studio.
Oops, I missed that Manga Studio is mac-only.. I’ll have to change my vote to Anime Studio, then, as I don’t own a Mac.

Yesterday I read some discussion about Manga Studio, sparked in part by Fiona Staples sharing her process for using it in Saga #8 this past Wednesday. It made me curious about the possibilities with my own art. What a great item for a contest!

I would like to give it to my son (age 13) and see what he can make with it.
(He would probably prefer Manga, but all we have is PCs.)

My son and daughter would love me forever and then hie themselves away to the computer.
If I win second place, I’d pick Anime Studio Pro.

I would love a copy of Anime Studio 9 Pro because I am a college student about to enter senior thesis and want to do a 2D animation. Anime Studio is clearly the best option for cutout animation and I have been watching tutorials on how to use it properly. Problem is my free trial is about to expire! Thank you for this opportunity!

I’ve always wanted to do a manga about a lesbian gunslinger who has to save her Native American girlfriend from greedy land barons who are trying to force her tribe off of land they want to develop rail though. Manga Studio would be immensely helpful.

I don’t know much about Anime Studio, but I’ve just recently been hearing about some nice colouring effects that you can do with Manga Studio, so my choice would be that one.
Happy Holidays to you as well!

as a comics major, i’d get manga studio and try my hand at finally doing that webcomic i’ve been meaning to do

I’d use Manga Studio to create my first comic and Anime Studio Pro to make a short animation film.
If I get second place my choice would be Anime Studio Pro.

I would make a graphic novel, so my preference is manga studio. So many choices for a graphic novel. A super intelligent hamster? A time travel story? A sequel to David Carridine’s Kung Fu?

I would love to replace the Manga Studio license which I lost due to an exploded hard drive. With it I would immediately draw Gray Gargoyle sitting in a cracked concrete chair as an homage to Akira!
Then for the Anime program…oh my. I would have to animate a bunch of tiny clowns in a fight.

Honestly, I would love a copy of the pro-animation to use in family videos (as well as wedding videos). It would be great to expand my capabilities.

Thanks, everyone, for entering! I have emailed the winners with contact information. I must be doing something right, since the random draw worked out with everyone getting their first choice. And thanks, as always, for reading. I couldn’t do this without you.

PS, if you didn’t win, you can buy the software at huge discounts through tomorrow.
