That's a great point, that simply putting out different works isn't enough, that you also have to get them in front of the audience. I remember a lot of discussions from that time period about how DC would throw unusual books into the same old comic market ... and that was before they had a more outreach-oriented marketing group or a solid presence in bookstores to reach another kind of reader.

i remember this series as well, and your recommendation of it. One of its real difficulties is that the simply stated premise really did make it sound uninteresting to the audience that would have appreciated it. Meanwhile, the audience that might be enticed by the "elevator pitch" for the series were not really going to appreciate what the book really was. DC did lots of experimentation, but were never very good at actually being able to match those books up with their proper audience.

and I loved the DC Focus line. I also find it very interesting that all the books from that line have been reprinted now, except "Touch" by John Francis Moore. That was the one that interested me the least when the line was announced, but it was well done and had me interested once I actually read the book. I wish that book could have its rights revert to the creators so it could be released as a TPB...

I remember this series and liked it as well. I think I moved to Colorado while it was coming out and never got the last few issues, but I enjoyed what I read. I will definitely pick this TPB up when it comes out.
