Vanja, that happens more often than we know, I think. People think that getting a book at DC or Marvel is “making it”, but with so much competition, it’s not a sure thing that that status can be kept. Especially with the publishers thrashing for more sales and new directions.

It’s strange that with X-Treme X-Men’s cancellation, Pak doesn’t seem to have a new project lined up at either Marvel and DC (that I know of). His career has definitely taken a slow turn following his association with the Hulk titles, as despite some quality titles to his name, like “Red Skull: Incarnate”, he has slipped away from the spotlight. It’s all the more bizarre when one compares him to his fellow Marvel event writer Matt Fraction’s career trajectory.

Jer, you make a good point. It’s not just the character but the combination of character, writer, and artist that matters.

Honestly I’m not sure that I’d want to see anyone write Amadeus Cho other than Greg Pak, Fred Van Lente and maybe Jeff Parker. Outside that group I’d be afraid that someone would decide that Cho should put on a fetish costume and start calling himself Penance. Or something equally stupid.

He’s tenuously connected to a Golden Age character called Master Mind Excello — it’s more of an excuse than anything.
