On the Wreck-It Ralph home video release is a trailer for the upcoming Planes. This Disney animated movie is a quasi-sequel to Cars, although it won’t be made by Pixar. Instead, it’s being produced by DisneyToon Studios (which usually works on the direct-to-video sequels). It’s being promoed as “inspired by the world of Cars“.

Originally planned as a direct-to-home-video release, this 3-D film will now be in theaters on August 9, starring Dane Cook as the plane Dusty. Dusty wants to be an air racer but unfortunately has a fear of heights. As the press release says,
Dusty’s not exactly built for racing, so he turns to a seasoned naval aviator who helps Dusty qualify to take on the defending champ of the race circuit. Dusty’s courage is put to the ultimate test as he aims to reach heights he never dreamed possible, giving a spellbound world the inspiration to soar.
The mentor is rumored to be voiced by Stacy Keach. DisneyToon is already working on a sequel, Planes 2: Fire and Rescue.
