The advertising for the show King of the Nerds, a reality competition which ran on TBS earlier this year, was horrible, but the show itself wasn’t that bad. (I did think runner-up Genevieve should have won, though.) It did so well that TBS is casting a second season, to air in 2014. They’re looking for “passionate and competitive men and women who are the best of the best in academics, fandoms, robotics, cos-play, mathematics, computer science, sci-fi, etc. This show is celebrating, embracing, re-inventing, and re-defining what it is to be a nerd!” Sometimes it plays into the stereotypes, but I liked the gender-balanced casting. The winner gets $100,000.
As shown in the graphic below, to apply, you email a photo, contact information, and a short bio to WoodyKOTNCasting@gmail.com. You’ll also need to fill out some forms and submit a video at NerdKing.net. I’d actually consider applying if 1) I wasn’t too old (they seem to want 20-somethings) and 2) competition didn’t give me hives. It would be very cool to know one of the comic nerds they cast.
