Archie Comics and Warner Bros. Team for Archie Movie

Warner Bros. and Archie Comics are teaming up for a live-action feature film version of Archie, to be directed by Jason Moore, who did a great job on Pitch Perfect. The movie will be written by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, who’s been working on Glee but has a long comic history writing for Marvel as well as penning the recent Archie Meets Glee comic storyline.

Archie Return to Riverdale movie

Not this one

The news broke at Deadline.com, which is perhaps taking its name too seriously in speculating that the movie will incorporate zombies, since Aguirre-Sacasa is working on Afterlife With Archie, a story where zombies take over Riverdale due later this year. I find that unlikely for Archie’s first big-screen movie.

Heidi has this quote from Aguirre-Sacasa: ““Archie is the ultimate teenager and this movie will be the ultimate teenage movie — in the grand tradition of Sixteen Candles and Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.” Glad to hear that they’ll keep them as teens! An earlier TV movie, Return to Riverdale, had them as adults, and that misses much of the concept’s charms.
