Captain America Winter Soldier Publicity Starts Nine Months Out
July 9, 2013

Marvel/Disney has released the first teaser poster for Captain America: The Winter Soldier. The sequel to Captain America: The First Avenger will be in theaters on April 4, 2014, nine months from now. So get ready to hear about it until then!

Captain America: The Winter Soldier

It’s a distinctive poster, evoking the hero while making it clear that things are not happy. The shield is battered, with all the color worn away, some replaced with what looks like blood. I hope this doesn’t mean a switch to the grimmer style of superhero films that DC has been making. I like Marvel’s movies better because they’re more fun.

Regardless, the iconic image with just the modernized stencil dates shows how less can be more when it comes to building attention and catching the eye.

Considering the story Ed Brubaker wrote that gave us what many suspect will be the backbone of the “Winter Soldier” plotline, grim is something we have to expect. For this film, anyway.

And yeah. Less is definitely more here.

I’ve seen this poster in downtown San Diego, as part of the Comic-Con promotion. Although, the “Thor: the Dark World” poster is my prevealent.

Do you know if the 2nd Captain America movie has the same writers as the first? That should be a good indication of tone.

Good question. Yes, they have the same writers, at least according to IMDB. Both movies are credited as screenplay by Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely. They’re also listed as inspired by Joe Simon & Jack Kirby, which is nice. Winter Soldier is also listed as concept by Ed Brubaker, so hopefully he’s getting a piece of it.
