Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H. Debuts Tomorrow
August 10, 2013

Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H.

Marvel is launching a new animated series tomorrow. Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H. teams up five big behemoths: Hulk, She-Hulk, Red Hulk, A-Bomb, and Skaar. As the promo text says,

What does S.M.A.S.H. stand for? They’re Hulks — whatever they want!

My guess? It’s meant to evoke Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., the live-action TV show getting lots of press right now. The cartoon debuts on Sunday, August 11, at 11 AM Eastern time on Disney XD. The voice cast is great:

  • Fred Tatasciore – Hulk (carrying over the role from Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes and others)
  • Clancy Brown (Highlander, Buckaroo Banzai, Lex Luthor in Superman/Batman: Public Enemies) – Red Hulk
  • Eliza Dushku (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Dollhouse) – She-Hulk
  • Benjamin Diskin – Skaar
  • Seth Green (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Greg the Bunny, Robot Chicken) – A-Bomb (who turns out to be Rick Jones)

Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H.

And the premise is wacky: to show the world they’re not monsters, A-Bomb is filming them all for a reality web series. Which means humor. And I’m not sure how this works in, but best of all — Devil Dinosaur! Here’s Seth Green explaining the premise and the characters:

Okay…. Really when is it too much…Too Much. Who could really battle 5 HULK type Characters?

I saw the premiere episode at SDCC. While I still loathe the too-hip “talking to the camera” segments, at least there is an in-story reason. And the voice actors all make me want to come back for more.
