Batman: Dark Knight Returns Parts 1 and 2 Now Available in Single Package With New Extras

Batman: The Dark Knight Returns Deluxe Edition

Warner Bros. Home Entertainment today released the Deluxe Edition of Batman: The Dark Knight Returns (an original animated movie previously available as Part 1 (released September 2012) and Part 2 (January of this year)).

As you’d expect, to tempt viewers into double-dipping, there’s more than just a “seamless combination” of the previously two-part animated film. There are also new bonus features: “a 70-minute Frank Miller retrospective, an all-new filmmaker commentary, [and] four exclusive collector cards with never-before-seen artwork”. You’ll also pay for this one about what you’d pay for one of the previous parts.

I’d talk about this just teaching fans to wait to purchase something coming out in multiple parts, but I suspect the DC animated line has already been affected by general falling sales from home video. (Not enough people still want to own plastic discs, it seems.) If too many people wait, then I’m not sure there will be many more of these. As it is, it seems that only Batman, Superman, and the Justice League are now allowed to be subjects for them, decreasing my interest in exploring that part of their cinematic universe.
