I’m thrilled to hear that the 1966 Batman TV show is finally coming to DVD. Per their spokesperson, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment will distribute the long-awaited Batman live-action television series (1966-68) as a complete box set later in 2014. Let’s hope for some good extras, since many of the show’s main actors are still around.
Presumably, Warner came to some agreement with Fox, which had been the reported holdup for the last five years. The Batman 66 comic and merchandise, launched last year using the visual language and characters from the show, has been well-received. 2014 is also Batman’s 75th anniversary, since his first appearance was Detective Comics #27 in 1939.
