Superman/Batman Movie Delayed a Year
January 18, 2014
Superman Batman movie logo

No longer an accurate date.

WB has announced that their Superman/Batman movie, the sequel to Man of Steel, will open in theaters May 6, 2016, instead of the previous July 2015 date planned. Henry Cavill continues as Superman, while Ben Affleck takes on the role of Batman and Gal Gadot joins as the much-anticipated Wonder Woman. The studio’s explanation is that they are “allowing the filmmakers time to realize fully their vision, given the complex visual nature of the story”.

Moving the Superman/Batman film puts it away from Edgar Wright’s Ant-Man but moves it closer to X-Men: Apocalypse and an untitled Marvel movie. Hopefully, this means that Hollywood learned from the spate of blockbusters this past summer, where too many movies meant too many flops.

Ah, the optimistic take :)

Personally, I think it’s because they don’t have a script that works. And that the meddlers in the main office keep changing what they want. First it’s a Superman/Batman movie, now they’re adding Wonder Woman to it. By the time they’re finished it will be a Justice League move that revitalizes the Legion of Superheroes franchise by way of the Teen Titans. Or they will have meddled it right out of the range where it’s even remotely profitable to make.

If it’s due to script concerns, I’m glad to see more work being put into that area. I know some people think characters or spectacle are all that matter, but for me, enjoyment all stems from the story.

Hold it! That sounds like a great movie! We’ll have ALL the villains in it and ditch all of the origin stories. Just 2 1/2 hours of straight up super heroics.
