The French Love the Walking Dead… At Least Digitally

As the Festival de la Bande Dessin√©e d’Angoul√™me 2014 rolls on this week, ComiXology has released survey details of their French users.

Most have been reading comics for decades, most are young(ish) males, and the favorite English title is The Walking Dead. (Maybe they aren’t so different from the US!) A followup data point is that 51% of ComiXology users are OUTSIDE the US. For a startup, that’s an impressive balanced reach.

    I imagine that kind of worldwide reach is easier to achieve in the digital comics industry than in other digital media because the market was historically so small as to not have previously been carved up in very old contracts. A French television company licensing a US show probably was much richer and had much more interest in making an ironclad future-proof contract than a French licensor of US comics.
