Boom! Studios has launched a weekly YouTube series, Boom! Tube, to promote its latest releases and announcements. Hosted by Stephanie Hocutt (who, according to her Twitter feed, is a PR assistant at the company), the show updates every Wednesday. Here’s the announcement video:
The guest for the first episode is Alex Galer, an assistant editor at Boom! who’s also in the announcement clip. According to VP of Publishing & Marketing Filip Sablik, “since YouTube is one of the largest social networks on the planet, this was the obvious next step” to engage with fans. I like the idea and the hosts, but they really have to stop pretending they’re dancing to music we can’t hear — it makes them look crazy. I’d also like to see a couple of full-screen preview pages from any comic they’re promoting. The cover just doesn’t provide enough information; they need content we can’t get plenty of other places. It remains to be seen if they can provide the behind-the-scenes info and creator interviews they’re promising, but I hope they can make this something truly informative, not just a “coming this week” list.
Update: As of June 18, the show has been renamed “Buzz on Boom!” I think that’s a better name, and the host is continuing to do an ever-better job.
